Ever since that fateful announcement when Lin said he'd halt work on the ZOLE tool, it seems like this place has been a ghost town.
It really saddens me to see a really good tool ground to a halt like this. If I could hack, I'd give them a hand, but all I can really do is find stuff in Cheat Engine and use that.
Makes me wonder: What has everyone been up to in this hiatus and when do you suppose Lin might release his next tool?

Oracles Hacking / Help / Rom Map
|

Many games on DataCrystal have the offset locations for specific data in a "ROM Map".
Perhaps someone could find the offsets that change certain aspects of the game and we could build a ROM Map for the Oracle Games?

Oracles Hacking / Projects / Zelda: The Curse of Crescent Island

This hack takes place after the second defeat of Vire in Oracle of Seasons (I'm going by Ages > Seasons timeline here).
Six months after which, Vire rises up from the depths of hell and rounds up some of the monsters who survived Onox and Veran's defeat. He realizes that he was powerful enough to rule Labyranna and Holodrum by himself.
So he sent an earthquake to Crescent Island, increasing it in size and seperating it from the rest of Labyranna.
During which, Link befriended a Tokay named Erik, who died due to the earthquake. Because of this, Link made a tomb for his friend (which is the first dungeon) and vows to slay Vire on his own.
Along the way, Link will meet up with Dimitri and possibly Ricky and Moosh. He will need all the strength and support he can get to save Crescent Island from Vire.
There will be four dungeons around Crescent Island which will be much bigger. Your primary source of information will be Tokays (pretty much everyone in this hack but Link and Dimitri are Tokays) which will offer clues and you can play games.
Seeing as Dimitri is mandatory, the shop will sell his flute and you'll get him rather than Ricky or Moosh (If someone knows a good ASM hack to change the default partner, that'd be nice). Of course this will mean I will need some major help in ASM and reprogramming certain events such as making it not mandatory to play the fairy game or even contact the fairies to get the animal. Like, maybe have Dimitri give you the flute when you first meet him.
If some of this stuff isn't possible, I might not be able to do this.
Edit: Until I get off the ground with this hack and start making some maps, could you please move it to Ideas, Lin?
Also, I'd like a Clear-All button for convience in the next ZOLE.

The Site / Suggestions / General Zelda Hacking Board

While the Gameboy Zeldas are fun to hack, some people may want to hack Ocarina of Time or A Link to the Past.
Seeing as this is about Zelda, it should have a General Zelda Hacking board.

Maybe you could add a tutorial for hacking LA. I personally love the game to death (moreso than even the Nintendo 64 Zelda games) and would love to hack it.

So far, there's only three tools out for this.
One is for Windows in heavy development with no information on it (just the bit on DataCrystal) called Sword.
One is for DOS, which so far is the only one I can use via DosBox which is good but the overworld editor is laggy and it can't edit internal game data as well as having limits.
Another is for Mac OS X which seems to be the only one that can edit both the overworld and the internal game data. I'd like to use this, but I don't know how to port a program to PC. I don't think the author plans to port it either.
If someone has the knowledge of how to port a program, could they port the Mac OSX version to Windows or even DOS?

Oracles Hacking / Projects / Re: Zelda Oracle of Ages Kaizo Edition

Decided to scrap this and start a new hack, this time with Seasons.
It's basically like Ocarina of Time Master Quest but with Oracle of Seasons.
1. Hero's Cave is now the last dungeon and mandatory.
2. Overworld will be revamped.
3. Subrosia will be revamped as well. (I'll need to have the boomerang be gotten earlier)
That's right, no cruel and unusal punishment since I played Kaizo and got very frustrated.
That doesn't mean the dungeons will be cake.
So basically, I'd like to be able to find out how to modify what is sold at the shop so I can make it so the boomerang can be bought at the shop for 200 rupees.

Oracles Hacking / Help / Changing Flutes

Suppose I want to have a flute for an animal come out of a chest. But I wanted that flute to be for Dimitri rather than the default flute.
How would I change which flute the strange flute would belong to if I got it out of a chest?

Well I've looked around for the many tutorials on the internet about NES hacking and they all seem to be about Palette hacking, Tileset changing, and Text hacking. The simple stuff.
I want to learn how to edit monsters in battle so I could have the player fight Dreadhawks early or something.
